History of the Friends of Boone County Trails

The Friends of Boone County Trails (FBCT) is a group of Boone County residents who promote the development of trailways in our community. The group meets regularly to discuss strategies for acquiring and developing land for trails, as well as to promote trail usage as a part of a healthy and active community.

FBCT is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (a component fund of the Community Foundation of Boone County). The FBCT is part of a larger project, the Farm Heritage Trail Project. To find out complete details about this project and about the benefits of having trails in our community, visit the Farm Heritage Trail Project.

This future hiking, biking and horse riding trail is intended to highlight central Indiana's rich agricultural heritage while enhancing regional tourism and economic development. Ultimately it is envisioned to provide non-motorized connections to Prophetstown State Park as well as to Indianapolis Greenways trails. Currently the non-profit group Friends of Boone County Trails is seeking funds to purchase this corridor, which is on loan for the St. Jude's ride only and is not open to the public. The trail head will be in a field at the intersection of Hazelrigg Rd and Serum Plant Road, on Serum Plant Road, just South of Thorntown.
